Réappropriation | Contemporary design & art | 2014

DESIGN + ART, REAPPROPRIATION BIG-GAME, KASPAR HAMACHER, TOBIAS SCHÄFER, MARTIN HYDE, CHRISTOPHE LAMBERT, CHRISTIAN PAUCHON
Exhibition from april 4 to may 31, 2014.

The exhibition proposes an overview of contemporary reappropriation in art and design.

This is a wide topic, as the diversity of the artists’ and designers approaches shows. From the playful ready-made by famous designers trio based in Lausanne, BIG-GAME, through amazing recycling by german designer Tobias Schäfer (*1976), to furniture/trunk shaped with fire by Kaspar Hamacher (B, *1981), contemporary design reappropriates forms and materials and practices a conceptual revalorisation of the second-hand or usual object, as well as a reflexion about durability at the time of the throwaway culture. This is also the globalization of low cost mostly from china that showcases the swiss artist Christian Pauchon (*1972), with the assembly of touristic trinkets made in China. The artists Martin Hyde (CA, 1975) and Christophe Lambert (1970) appropriate pop culture, history of art, mythologies in drawings, paintings or objects where the founding myths are like any other mass consumption products.
