The Eames couple accompanied the development of design into mass production through their major contribution to the technological advances of moulded plywood, plastics and metal. The architect Charles Eames (1907 – 1978) is known as one of the most influential furniture designers of the 20th century.
Alongside their pursuit of cheap mass production, best known in the form of the popular fibreglass chair, the Eames also designed more upmarket and luxurious furniture. These include the Soft Pad family of office chairs.
