Swiss architect Mario Botta is born in 1943 in Mendrisio, Switzerland. During his architecture studies in Venice, he works with Le Corbusier and Luis Kahn. Famous for his architecture production, he also designed furniture, lamps and accessories mostly during the 80’s, where he works with Italian companies like Alias or Artemide.
He designed many seats for Alias, among other the 5 chairs models Prima, Seconda, Quinta, 91 and Latonda. Today only Prima and Seconda are still in production. The Latonda chair designed in 1986 was available in 2 versions: the standard one with seat made of perforated metal and the luxury version with leather seat.
