DAR armchair, Charles & Ray Eames, Zenith second generation, 1948/50.
Charles & Ray Eames had a major influence on the design history of the 20th century, they opened the path to mass production.
The fiberglass shell is one of the most popular model designed by Eames and a true vintage icon. Available as armchair or side chair, the Eames chairs were available in different colours and on different type of bases (H-base, Stacking, Dowel, Eiffel, Cat cradle, etc.). The fiberglass shel was designed in 1948 for the MOMA’s “International Competition for Low-Cost Furniture Design”. The armchair was produced by Zenith Plastics from 1950 to 1953 with rope edge, from 1953 to 1956 without rope edge, by Herman Miller from 1956, and from 1972 in Europe by Vitra
