Early coffee table by Isamu Noguchi, for Herman Miller.
The coffee table was Isamu Noguchi (1904-1988) favourite design achievement, certainly because it shared many caracteristics with his art work. He considered the table as a useful sculpture.
Designed in 1939 for MoMA’s president, he re-worked the original sketches in 1944 to create a new organic structure. the base of the table is composed by 2 identical pieces made of solid wood, that can be moved to a right-angle, and a heavy glass top.
The Noguchi coffee table is produced by Herman Miller from 1947, and from 2000 by Vitra for the European market.
The table available here is a vintage production with thick glass top and green edges. A true must have for any mid century modern collectors or lovers.
