Rare straight legs table by Alvar Aalto, Huonekalu- ja Rakennustyötehdas Oy, Turku, Finland, 1927.
Alvar Aalto (1898 – 1976) is a major architect of the 20th century as well as an influent designer. He is considered as a pioneer in the development of plywood technics. Aalto produced most of his icons during the 20’s and the 30’s, some in the context of large-scale architecture project like the Paimio Sanatorium.
The small straight legs dining table or desk was designed in 1927 for Huonekalu- ja Rakennustyötehdas Oy, Turku. Most Alvar Aalto furniture is still produced by Artek, but this straight legged table don’t, which makes it to a rare collector’s item, most of all in this early edition!
From the 30’s Alvar Aalto designs many plywood furniture pieces: armchairs, chairs, tables, stools etc. Many of them are still produced by Artek, that he co-founded in 1935.
