4 DAF swag leg chair by George Nelson for Herman Miller, 1958
George Nelson (1908-1986) is a major designer of the american mid century modern like Charles Eames. He was also a very influent director of design at Herman Miller.
The DAF Swag leg chair is very rare it was only produced a couple of years until the early 60’s. Herman Miller now produce the DAF chair only in plastic. The fiberglass first production is very rare most of all with the desirable swag leg in chrome, that was made only for the DAF and the MAA models.
The examples available here have their original, highly sought-after swag leg bases, the cream fibreglass shells have a beautiful patina and a pronounced fibre structure. A collector’s item for any lover of post-war American design.
